Why Storing Articles with DTIC Matters

Line of Departure prioritizes the accessibility and preservation of professional military knowledge. Our partnership with the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) enables us to securely store all articles from the U.S. Army Branch Journals in a centralized repository that is publicly accessible. This collaboration guarantees these valuable resources are readily available to soldiers, defense personnel, researchers, and scholars globally.

Fostering Scholarly Research

DTIC's robust database and support from CrossRef create a unique and permanent link to each article called a Digital Object Identifier (DOI). This DOI system enables seamless citation, access, and sharing across academic and professional communities, fostering rigorous scholarly research and collaboration.

How to Cite an Article Using the DOI Number

Each article stored in DTIC is assigned a DOI number, a permanent identifier linked to the document. To cite an article using its DOI, you can format the citation as follows:

Author(s). (Year). Title of the Article. Journal Name, Volume(Issue), Page Range. https://doi.org/DOI_Number

For example:

Akuszewski, B., & Tran, L. D. (2023). Tanks Need Infantry to Lead the Way. Armor Journal, Fall 2023, 20-24. https://doi.org/10.1234/abcd.5678

Using the DOI ensures that the article can always be located, even if the website address changes, enhancing its reliability as a source.

Elevating the Importance of Our Articles

Using DTIC's repository and DOI assignment, we enhance the credibility and accessibility of our publications. Each article on the Line of Departure website contains a DOI hyperlink, which leads directly to the PDF version stored in DTIC. The DOI hyperlink provides an authoritative source for each article. The DTIC repository and the DOI number work together to boost our content's visibility and impact, further supporting the U.S. Army's mission of sharing critical knowledge and insights.
